2022–2023 President’s Report on Philanthropy & Endowments

A Message from David J. Lieb, Interim Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations

As Penn State’s interim vice president for development and alumni relations, I have the privilege of sharing with you the following President’s Report on Philanthropy and Endowments, which celebrates our fundraising results of the past year and the continuing impact of your support. When an institution completes an enormously successful campaign like A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence, the time that follows is often a pause for reflection on that success. As you will see in the report, this year—our first since surpassing the Greater Penn State goal—was no pause. You and your fellow Penn State supporters continued to give with extraordinary generosity, and the fiscal year that ended on June 30 was among the top five fundraising years in our history, as measured by both receipts and commitments.

Why did Penn Staters continue to offer support at these near-record levels? In the wake of the campaign, our community shares an understanding of philanthropy’s role in shaping our success as a higher education leader. The University’s supporters have also stepped forward to partner with President Neeli Bendapudi in achieving her vision for Penn State as a transformative force in the lives of our students and in the future of Pennsylvania, our nation, and the world. Gifts from our alumni and friends are welcoming new generations of students to the Penn State family, enhancing their education and experience, and deepening our impact through research and service.

Through the stories gathered in the President’s Report, you can learn more about the importance of philanthropy in sustaining the University’s tradition of access and opportunity even as it drives innovations and advances across every aspect of our mission. Thank you for your role in helping Penn State and Penn Staters to excel.

Sincerely,

David J. Lieb signature
